Tastic in collaboration with Art My Loves have raised R 1 000 000.00 for 40 academically deserving tertiary students to be afforded an opportunity to gain access to quality education. This is the brand’s continued effort in showcasing the spirit of true generosity which was derived from their initial partnership with Laduma Ngxokolo of Maxhosa Africa, where they raised over R700 000.00.
During a press conference at Langhams conferencing centre in Fourways, Marketing Director of Pasta and Rice, Thembi Sehloho said “Education is just one of the ways in which the brand is encouraging true generosity, we want to ensure that the youth get an opportunity to thrive as we continue shaping the next generation through driving academic excellence”.
Tastic partnered with the My Loves Art movement to curate a 16 piece art collection inspired by untold South African stories of true generosity and the spirit of Ubuntu. This body of work was auctioned at an event held at Hallmark House, bidders and esteemed art collectors offered their highest prices in aim to contribute towards making a positive impact through the Legacy fund.
“ As Soweto born creatives with almost a decade of experience, the journey has been most challenging for us. We come from humble beginnings that have inspired us to produce content that positively transforms black representation in South Africa and eliminate negative perceptions against Soweto and other townships where most opportunities aren’t afforded to the youth. Partnering with a brand like Tastic on such an amazing initiative has been incredible. We are proud to have aided in laying the foundation towards a brighter tomorrow for future leaders” says Fhatuwani Mukheli. Bonolo Makwaeba, final year medical student and Tastic 2022 Bursary fund recipient said “ I entered for the bursary fund because I lacked funds to complete my medical training. I started my career as a Bachelor of Science student and completed that and so I got into Medicine at a later stage and that means that I don’t qualify for most bursaries due to my age. So this bursary fund came as a tremendous help because I didn’t know what to do with my outstanding fees”.
“I used to carry my book in a 10kg tastic rice bag when I was at primary school which made me famous around the school and inspired me to work hard on my studies. Tastic rice has helped me a lot during my educational journey in terms of motivation, staying focused, and educational financing. And I'd like to thank Tastic Rice for everything that it has done for me to get to where I am today.” Says Dalton Kgoete, Masters student in Industrial Engineering and 2021 Tastic Bursary Fund recipient.
The brand commits to persevering in the journey to making an impactful change in South African communities through their continued investment in education. Consumers are encouraged to follow the Tastic Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for future opportunities such as these.
