Tiger Brands kicks-off Covid-19 workplace vaccination

6 September 2021, Johannesburg – Tiger Brands received the green light from the National Department of Health to run a Covid-19 workplace vaccination programme, paving the way for Africa’s largest food manufacturer to offer employees convenient access to vaccination during work hours.

In partnership with Discovery Health, pilot workplace vaccination clinics were launched at the company’s Boksburg Culinary plant and Isando Shared Service Centre in the week of 23 August 2021. Tiger Brands employees, contractors and consultants working at their Boksburg, Germiston and Isando operations were able to register and book an appointment to receive the COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. “

There is overwhelming evidence that vaccines save lives. We believe it is crucial that employers play an active part in South Africa’s vaccination efforts, both through voluntary workplace vaccination clinics and communication programmes that provide access to accurate and reliable information,” says Mary-Jane Morifi, Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer at Tiger Brands.

Food manufacturing forms part of essential services within South Africa. Ensuring the health and safety of Tiger Brands’ workforce is a top priority for the company. During September, the company will offer further workplace vaccination clinics in the Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal as part of the next phase in its workplace vaccination programme.

Guided by an ethos of nourishing and nurturing more lives every day, the move by Tiger Brands aims to support the government’s Covid-19 vaccination efforts.

“In launching a voluntary workplace vaccination programme we are able to offer our most important resource, our people, convenient access to vaccination and the opportunity to take charge in protecting themselves, their colleagues and their loved ones against Covid-19,” concludes Morifi.
