Diversifying our own supply chain and creating opportunities for meaningful participation e in our business is fundamental to our strategy.


In 2018, we spent R12 billion with BBBEE verified suppliers.


With agricultural procurement at the heart of our supply chain, we intentional focus on developing black farmers and provide them with guaranteed offtake agreements:

  • A total of 52 tomato farmers received financial and non-financial support to supply Tiger Brands with 5,200 tons of tomatos for the 2018 season and our support will continue.
  • Under our new smallholder farmer programme, we supported six bean farmers to deliver 70 tons of beans during the last growing season. These 58 bean and tomato farmers are now entrenched in our procurement chain.
  • The farmers received financial and non-financial support, agronomics and agrarian support, as well as business mentorship and 0% loans.

In turn, our contribution to our smallholder farmer development has allowed our farmers to create 412 jobs which included 194 female employees in mainly rural communities. Our farmers have not only put food on the table for themselves, but for fellow South Africans through direct jobs and through the valuable produce they farm which goes into our award-winning products.

In 2019 we will expand the smallholder farmer programme to other areas like wheat, sorghum and peanuts.   We’re looking forward to reaping further success together, and to nourishing and nurturing more lives every day.
